RENAS is a private voluntary organization which runs nationwide collecting and processing of EE-waste on behalf of its members.
The Electro Association (EFO) and Electro and Energy – part of the Federation of Norwegian Industries – have a 50/50 ownership in RENAS. Producers and importers of EE products will fulfill EE regulation requirements upon becoming RENAS members. RENAS is open to all importers and producers, regardless of affiliation to the owner organizations.
Our system for collection and treatment of EE waste comprises 170 reception centres and 15 treatment plants. These will accept private and industrial waste for free.
Municipal refuse disposal facilities will also accept private EE waste for free, as will shops that sell products similar to the discarded products. Industry can use these alternatives too, but might be asked to pay a fee or to purchase new products as replacements for the discarded ones.
Our vision
No environmental toxins on the loose.
Environment politics
RENAS will collect and treat as much EE waste as possible in a cost-efficient way and meet all official requirements with a good margin.
We will meet the official requirements expected of our members, and of RENAS as a recycling company.
We will initiate measures to help treatment plants achieve the highest possible recycling rate for all products and fractions according to environmental and economical considerations. We will also create incentives to make use of the best available technology (BAT).
We will facilitate the exchange of experiences on environmental toxins and treatment technology between treatment plants.
Our model for collection shall encourage those who have or create EE waste to separate the waste and deliver it to approved reception points.
We will help shape and follow up our contact with collecting agencies and treatment plants to ensure the waste is treated according to official requirements, preventing the spread of environmental toxins.
